Hassan Nawaz, son of former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, has been declared bankrupt by the London High Court following a tax-related case with the UK’s Tax and Revenue Department (HMRC).
The bankruptcy ruling, officially issued under case number 694 of 2023, was published on April 29, 2024. However, the case itself was filed on August 25, 2023. According to sources close to Nawaz, his legal team is currently reviewing the case and plans to challenge the court’s decision soon.
The case was initiated by HMRC, and Nawaz’s legal representative in the matter is Kaur Maxwell. Under UK law, a bankruptcy order is part of the insolvency process, legally declaring an individual bankrupt. These orders are published in the London Gazette only after approval by The Insolvency Service.
As per UK regulations, individuals declared bankrupt are typically restricted from acting as company directors or participating in company management unless they receive court approval. Despite this ruling, Hassan Nawaz continues to hold directorial roles in several companies in the UK.
