Shahid Aslam, a former first-class cricketer, has been named the new batting coach for Pakistan’s men’s cricket team, just days before their upcoming tour of Zimbabwe. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed the appointment on Tuesday, announcing that Aslam will take on the role of full-time batting coach.
In addition, a spokesperson for the PCB stated that a new spin bowling coach for the team will be appointed soon, with efforts underway to finalize the position.
Aslam’s appointment comes as Pakistan’s cricket team seeks to recover from a series of disappointing performances, including a 3-0 loss to Australia in the recently concluded T20 series. His experience with the team as a support staff member over the years will be crucial as the team prepares for the upcoming series.
The interim white-ball head coach, Aqib Javed, is reported to have recommended Aslam for the role. Aslam’s first assignment will be the white-ball tour of Zimbabwe, which kicks off with the first ODI on November 24. Following this tour, Pakistan will embark on a full-fledged series in South Africa.
The Pakistan squad for the Zimbabwe tour includes notable players such as Aamir Jamal, Abdullah Shafique, Haris Rauf, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shahnawaz Dahani.
