Pakistan has entered into an agreement with a Chinese company to establish 3,000 Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations across the country. The project, which spans the motorway from Peshawar to Karachi, aims to enhance the infrastructure for electric vehicles and is expected to attract approximately $350 million in foreign investment.
Malik Khuda Bakhsh, Convenor of the Energy Standing Committee of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), announced the collaboration during a ceremony at the FPCCI office in Karachi. The initial investment for the project is $90 million, with an additional $250 million allocated for manufacturing by February 2025.
Bakhsh emphasized that the initiative will help reduce Pakistan’s reliance on imported fuel, conserve foreign exchange reserves, and contribute to cutting down environmental pollution. He also noted the increasing interest of Chinese investors in Pakistan’s energy sector, particularly in projects related to the Thar Coalfield and alternative energy sources.
The Sindh government has committed to fully supporting the project by assisting with land acquisition and other necessary documentation, ensuring the smooth implementation of the plan.
