The Pakistan Navy’s newly commissioned offshore patrol vessel PNS Yamama visited Jeddah on Tuesday, where it engaged in a bilateral naval exercise with the Royal Saudi Naval Forces (RSNF) ship HMS Makkah. The exercise aimed to enhance cooperation and interoperability between the two allied forces.

According to a statement from the Pakistan Navy, PNS Yamama—equipped with advanced technology for operations in contested maritime environments—was warmly received at Jeddah Port by senior RSNF officials and representatives from the Pakistan Embassy.

During its stay, the crew participated in professional exchanges, including cross-ship visits, strategic discussions on maritime security, and meetings with Saudi naval leadership. These engagements were designed to strengthen defense collaboration and deepen naval ties.

Following the port visit, PNS Yamama and HMS Makkah conducted a passage exercise (PASSEX), focusing on enhancing operational coordination, maritime security, and tactical maneuvers.

“The exercise was designed to strengthen naval cooperation and enhance interoperability between the two navies,” the Pakistan Navy said in its statement, emphasizing the commitment of both forces to ensuring regional maritime security and stability.

This visit further reinforces the long-standing defense partnership between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. Both nations frequently engage in joint military exercises across air, ground, and naval forces, with Saudi military cadets also undergoing specialized training in Pakistan.

Beyond defense cooperation, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia share strong economic and trade relations, with the Kingdom hosting over two million Pakistani expatriates, making it Pakistan’s largest source of remittances.

The PNS Yamama’s visit highlights the continued commitment of both navies to regional security and cooperation, strengthening the brotherly ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
