A Chinese company Sinohydro expected to build a river-run hydropower plant in Chitral that is in KP province to generate about 82MWs and 380 GWh of clean energy per annum at a cost of $200 million.
Uzghor Hydropower Pvt. Ltd will run the hydropower project, Turtonas-Uzghor by hydropower giant of China, Sinohydro and Sachal Group of Pakistan.
However, according to the sources, the project site is located about five kilometres away from existing 108MWs Golen Gol HPP on the Golen Gol River, as a tributary of Mastuj river in the north district of Chitral.
Chitral is adjacent to Gilgit-Baltistan region in Pakistan that also borders China.
Furthermore, it is anticipated that this project will be completed in the period of 4 years after the commencement of civil works. The PPIB- Private Power Infrastructure Board has approved the project design already along with the feasibility report, and financial proposal of this project.
