Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi faces a 15-day detention following orders from the Rawalpindi deputy commissioner, as reported by Aaj News.
The detention is related to his alleged involvement in the attack on the GHQ Rawalpindi gate on May 9. Authorities expressed concern that Qureshi’s release might pose a threat to peace and order in society.
The city police officer recommended a 45-day detention based on the station house officer’s report, and the district intelligence committee concurred with the findings of the police and security institutions. Despite being granted the right to appeal, Qureshi is detained for 15 days, according to the order.
This development coincides with the day Qureshi was expected to be released from Adiala jail, where he, along with the party’s former chairman Imran Khan, has been held in the cypher case. On Friday, a three-member Supreme Court bench, led by Justice Sardar Tariq Masood and including Justices Athar Minallah and Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, approved the bail pleas of Imran Khan and Shah Mahmood Qureshi in the cypher case, with each required to submit surety bonds worth Rs1 million.
