Luxury fashion brand Gucci and Adidas are facing users’ wrath for selling an umbrella at $1,644 or 11,100 yuan in China.
Gucci website says, “Part of the adidasxGucci collection, this sun umbrella features the Interlocking G and Trefoil print. adidas and Gucci venture into a collection, where the Web juxtaposes with the three white stripes, and the GG monogram combines with the trefoil.”
The accessory has been mocked on the Chinese social media platform Weibo, with the BBC reporting that one user called it “a very big but useless fashion statement”, while another wrote: “As long as I’m poor, they won’t be able to trick me into paying for this.” Twitter has seen its share of scorn too. “Imagine buying a $1,600 umbrella as a status symbol, discovering it doesn’t stop rain, then finding out it was never intended to work in the first place,” tweeted one user.
