On Saturday, Admiral Naveed Ashraf assumed the position of Pakistan’s 23rd naval chief, succeeding the outgoing naval chief, Admiral Amjad Khan Niazi, who retired. The transition of command took place during a ceremony at Pakistan Naval Headquarters in Islamabad.
During his farewell address, Admiral Amjad Khan Niazi congratulated Admiral Naveed Ashraf on taking over as the new naval chief. He praised Admiral Ashraf’s distinguished career, marked by notable achievements, and expressed confidence that Admiral Naveed Ashraf would prove to be a capable and worthy successor, leading the Navy to new heights.
Admiral Amjad Khan Niazi highlighted the strength and importance of the Pakistan Navy as a vital component of the country’s armed forces, responsible for safeguarding its maritime frontiers.
Admiral Naveed Ashraf brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having previously served in various key positions within the Navy. His command appointments include serving as the Commanding Officer of several naval vessels, including PNS ALAMGIR, PNS SHAHJAHAN, PNS TIPPU SULTAN, PNS MUJAHID, and PNS LARKANA. He has also held positions as the Commandant of the Pakistan Naval Academy and as the Commander of the 18th and 25th Destroyer Squadrons of the PN Fleet.
Additionally, Admiral Ashraf has held various staff appointments, including Fleet Operations Officer at HQ Commander Pakistan Fleet, Captain Training at HQ Flag Officer Sea Training, Deputy President of the National Defence University in Islamabad, Principal Secretary to the Chief of Staff Officer, Director of Maritime Affairs and Environmental Control, Chief Staff Officer to Commander Combined Task Force-151 HQ NAVCENT Bahrain, Director General C4I, Naval Secretary, and Deputy Chief of Naval Staff (Admin) at Naval Headquarters.
Admiral Naveed Ashraf’s educational background includes graduation from the Pakistan Navy War College in Lahore, the National Defence University in Islamabad, the Naval Staff College in the USA, and the Royal College of Defence Studies in the UK.
In recognition of his exceptional service, Admiral Ashraf has been honored with the Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Military) and Tamgha-e-Basalat awards.
