The Punjab government has declared April 23rd as a local holiday in Lahore district to accommodate the visit of foreign dignitaries, including Iranian President Dr. Ebrahim Raisi. President Raisi is currently on an official trip to Pakistan from April 22nd to April 24th, during which he is expected to visit Lahore and Karachi and meet with provincial leadership.
In a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad, President Raisi emphasized the need to increase trade volume between Iran and Pakistan to $10 billion, expressing dissatisfaction with the current level of trade.
This visit marks the first by a head of state following the February 8th general elections in Pakistan.
Meanwhile, the Sindh government has imposed a complete ban on drones in Karachi division from April 22nd to April 28th under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code. This decision comes in response to security concerns regarding potential threats to vital installations, particularly in light of recent attacks targeting foreigners. The ban aims to prevent any untoward incidents and ensure the safety and security of essential infrastructure.
Authorities have authorized station house officers to take action against violations of the ban under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
