After the recent announcement of the signing of Pakistan’s renowned fast bowler, Shaheen Afridi, by DP World ILT20 earlier this week, the anticipation is now rising for the revelation of additional Pakistani players set to join within the next 72 hours.
Subhan Ahmad, the Chief Operating Officer of DP World ILT20, shared that there are exciting announcements in the pipeline regarding the fresh acquisitions in the league. “In the upcoming days, we will be disclosing the roster. Pakistani players will be prominently featured in the upcoming DP World ILT20 Season 2. We are thrilled to have Shaheen on board for Season 2, considering his stature as one of the premier stars in the current cricket landscape,” Subhan remarked.
It’s noteworthy to mention that Pakistani players were absent from the inaugural edition of the tournament due to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) barring its players to ensure their commitment to international cricket and the Pakistan Super League. When questioned about how DP World ILT20 intends to address potential scheduling clashes with the PCB and other cricket boards, Subhan explained that the management is engaged in ongoing discussions with relevant boards to minimize scheduling overlaps. “The time window for the availability of Pakistan players in DP World ILT20 Season 2 has been subject to discussions with the PCB,” Subhan stated.
He holds the belief that the presence of accomplished Pakistani players will contribute to the league’s heightened popularity. He also alluded to the possibility of attracting some of the most prominent T20 stars from various parts of the world. “In addition to Shaheen, we have outstanding T20 performers from across the globe who will elevate the tournament into a truly unforgettable experience, not only for the spectators present at our three venues but also for fans watching the global broadcasts,” Subhan added.
When probed about the league’s strategy for drawing more fans to the stadiums, he pointed out that the final of the inaugural edition between Gulf Giants and Desert Vipers saw a packed audience. “This year, we intend to build upon that success. The DP World ILT20 brand has firmly established itself, and the teams have developed a strong rapport with cricket enthusiasts in the UAE,” Subhan emphasized. “For Season 2, our focus is on making the matches a complete family outing. In addition to cricket, there will be carnivals, music, and entertainment options that will transform each game into a memorable experience for fans of all age groups,” Subhan shared.
