Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has joined Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) in requesting the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) for a significant increase in gas prices.
SNGPL seeks a 147% hike, which would place additional financial strain on the already inflation-weary public. The company serves over 7.22 million consumers in North Central Pakistan and has proposed raising the average gas price to Rs4,446.89 per metric million British thermal unit (mmbtu).
This request, aimed at addressing a revenue shortfall of Rs189.18 billion, is scheduled for regulatory hearings in Lahore and Peshawar on March 25 and March 27, respectively.
Similarly, SSGC has also petitioned for a gas price increase, citing a revenue shortfall of Rs79.63 billion. These requests come after the caretaker government approved a 67% hike in gas tariffs in line with IMF directives.
The public hearings on these petitions will be held in Karachi on March 18 and in Quetta on March 20, where Ogra will decide on gas price adjustments.
