- It shall go on despite the Covid-19 pandemic, generating job opportunities for those around. The Chinese ambassador to Pakistan Yao Jing and other ministers and senior officials were also present at the agreement signing.
A ceremony witnessing the agreement signing with China Gezhouba for Azad Pattan hydro power project was held at PM office Islamabad on Monday. The Prime minister here said that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a project that shall take Pakistan to new heights of prosperity. Or in other words, it shall be one game-changer for the motherland. ‘Earlier, the CPEC was confined to road connectivity, but now other aspects of the corridor are being unfolded’, said Mr. Khan. He appreciated the governments of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, CPEC authority and also the energy ministry for the agreements regarding the project.
The project under discussion is a part of CPEC, with an investment of $1.5 billion. Located on the River Jhelum, it is expected to be completed in 2026. The 700.7 megawatt shall not be involving fuel import, thus generating local job opportunities and also meanwhile generating cheaper and greener power for the country. Talking about the signing of the agreement, the PM said that it was a part of the investment to complete the project based on clean energy. Unlike the past, it shall not be burdening the people, as previous projects had been made functional with imported fuel which had stressed the local currency.
Speaking of the project, CPEC Authority Chairman retired Lt-Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa said that it shall be completed by utilizing the local resources. It shall go on despite the Covid-19 pandemic, generating job opportunities for those around. The Chinese ambassador to Pakistan Yao Jing and other ministers and senior officials were also present at the agreement signing.
