Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar, in a recent statement, emphasized the caretaker government’s commitment to holding general elections as soon as the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announces the schedule.

He mentioned that while political parties have varying opinions regarding the election, every registered political party with the ECP is entitled to submit nomination papers for its candidates. The caretaker PM’s primary focus is on ensuring a level playing field for all political parties.

Regarding the possible return of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, PM Kakar emphasized that all actions would be carried out in accordance with the law.

PM Kakar also highlighted Pakistan’s desire to establish a healthy relationship with Afghanistan and promote cross-border movement based on globally recognized principles. He stressed the need for a system of movement between the two countries that aligns with international visa and passport norms, with the ultimate goal of transitioning from the current strained relationship to a more positive one.

He acknowledged that while not all Afghan nationals are involved in adverse activities, the state faces various challenges, including social issues, crime, and militancy, and it will act in the best interests of Pakistan.

The PM clarified that the policy is to repatriate Afghan nationals residing in Pakistan illegally, but this does not imply a complete severance of ties with Afghanistan. He mentioned that illegal Afghan nationals are not properly documented, posing a challenge for Pakistan.

The federal government is working with the provinces to address issues related to identifying, accommodating, and repatriating these individuals. A rationalized policy will be implemented to ensure a fair distribution of the burden between the provinces and the federal government.

Negotiations with TTP

On the topic of negotiations with the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), PM Kakar ruled out the possibility of further talks. He expressed the government’s determination to combat the banned terrorist group, citing its responsibility to protect the country and its children from the TTP’s violence.

PM Kakar commended Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) for its resilience in confronting militancy on the front lines, acknowledging the sacrifices made in the fight against terrorism. He highlighted the challenges faced by KP and underscored the importance of securing the future generation despite the sacrifices of many lives.

Additionally, the prime minister recognized Constable Umar Saeed, who courageously thwarted a militant attack in district Hangu, by awarding him a cash prize of Rs0.5 million.
