On Monday (today), Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar will take the oath of office as Pakistan’s caretaker prime minister at the Presidency.
President Arif Alvi will inaugurate the caretaker prime minister.
After the oath-taking ceremony, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will welcome the caretaker prime minister. The guard of honor will be handed to the new Prime Minister.
Later, Shehbaz Sharif, the outgoing prime minister, will observe a guard of honor.
Senator Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar will lead the country through the upcoming general elections.
“I have confidence in the caretaker prime minister’s ability to conduct free and fair elections,” outgoing Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said in his farewell address to the country late Sunday.
Kakar’s first responsibility will be to form a cabinet to govern the country as it prepares for a months-long election campaign.
The National Assembly was dissolved last week, and elections are scheduled to occur within 90 days, according to the constitution.
For months, there has been anticipation that the vote might be postponed.
After the latest census was issued earlier this month, the election commission needed time to redesign constituency boundaries in order to hold elections based on the new population count.
On Saturday, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) announced Senator Anwarul Haq Kakar as Pakistan’s caretaker prime minister.
PM Shehbaz and opposition leader Raja Riaz had sent advice regarding Kakar’s appointment as the caretaker prime minister to President Alvi, which was signed by the president.
