The Punjab Small Dams Organisation has given the green light for the construction and topographic survey of six new mini dams in the Rawalpindi division.
A budget of Rs15 million has been allocated for the survey, expected to conclude within the next two months. Construction of these dams is slated to commence in May or June of 2024.
The planned dams will be strategically located in Rawalpindi, Chakwal, Attock, and Jhelum districts, with the aim of irrigating approximately 5,000 to 20,000 acres of land. Moreover, they will serve as a vital water source for the residents of Islamabad and Rawalpindi division, addressing both agricultural and domestic water needs.
In a bid to enhance recreational opportunities, new amusement parks are also in the pipeline, set to be established in proximity to these dams.
Additionally, approval has been granted for the construction of the Kotli Sattian Dam within Tehsil Kotli Sattian, situated in the recently established Murree district. This area boasts towering mountain peaks surpassing those of Murree, providing an innovative recreational spot.
Further developments include plans for the Papin Dam in the Chak Beli Khan region of Rawalpindi and approvals for the Khori Dam, Sora Dam, Attock, Ahmad Dal Dam, and Khor Dam. These initiatives signify a concerted effort to address water resource needs and offer new recreational avenues for the region.
