On Wednesday, the Armed Forces of Pakistan, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), and Services Chiefs paid glowing tribute to Capt Karnal Sher Khan Shaheed, Nishan-e-Haider, on the occasion of his 24th Shahadat Anniversary.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Capt Karnal Sher Khan Shaheed’s great leadership and heroism call us to defend Pakistan at all costs.
According to the army’s media wing, Capt Kernal Sher, the Kargil War Hero, “wrote history with his blood,” demonstrating the ultimate valor, devotion, and unflinching allegiance to defend the country against all circumstances.
“The martyrdom anniversary of Captain Karnal Sher Khan serves as a powerful reminder of the extraordinary sacrifices made by Pakistan’s Armed Forces to defend the motherland.” Let us remember the heroes who have given their life in defence of our country. “The nation is proud of its gallant sons,” said ISPR.
Capt Karnal Sher Khan Shaheed was born on January 1, 1970, in the Swabi village of Nawan Killi (Shewa Adda).
On October 14, 1994, he was commissioned into the Army. During the Kargil conflict on the Line of Control, Captain Karnal Sher Khan emerged as a symbol of tenacity and bravery.
He set an example and inflicted huge losses on the enemy. He defended the five key strongholds he erected with his forces at Gultary’s elevation of 17,000 feet, repelling numerous Indian invasions.
After several failed attempts, the Indians surrounded Captain Karnal Sher Khan’s fortifications with two battalions on July 5, 1999, unleashing intense mortar fire and capturing several of his posts. Despite the odds, he led a counter-attack and reclaimed the lost portions of his station.
However, he was injured by machine-gun fire during the course of the battle, and the gallant son of the soil embraced martyrdom at the same position. He is one of only ten winners of Pakistan’s highest military accolade, the Nishan-e-Haider.
