Prisoners at Central Prison Karachi experienced “a dream come true” as they donned graduation gowns and received certificates at a convocation ceremony held to mark the completion of various courses.
On Thursday, Central Prison Karachi, in collaboration with the Alkhidmat Foundation (AKF), organized the event, where 248 inmates, including both under-trial and convicted prisoners, were awarded certificates. The courses completed included graphic design, computer and information technology (CIT), and foreign languages such as English and Chinese.
Sindh Minister for Prisons Ali Hassan Zardari, the chief guest at the ceremony, presented shields and certificates to the top 12 position holders in their respective courses, along with a cash prize of Rs 25,000 each. Inmate teachers were also recognized with certificates as a token of appreciation.
In his address, Minister Zardari commended the prison administration for organizing the event. He stated, “I am not your ruler, but your helper,” and emphasized the importance of unity within the prison system. “From an inmate to the IG prison, we are one family. We need to collaborate to improve society,” he said.
