On Wednesday, a wall fell in the Golra Morr neighbourhood owing to heavy rain, killing at least eleven people.
According to reports, heavy rain continues to lash sections of Rawalpindi, and residents around Nullah Lai have been told to abandon their homes due to a rise in the water level.
After receiving word about the tragedy, rescue crews arrived on the scene and used heavy machinery to recover the bodies of 11 persons.
Meanwhile, rescue workers extracted five labourers from the rubble.
The victims were said to have taken cover under a tent owing to the rain when the hundreds of feet long and 11 feet high wall fell. The number of casualties is expected to climb because of the sheer number of labourers present at the scene.
Meanwhile, the army and other departments were put on high alert as the water level in Nullah Lai rose to worrisome proportions. As a result, the populous areas along the waterway were flooded.
