At least 23 soldiers of the Pakistan Army were martyred in a terrorist attack on a security forces’ post in Dera Ismail Khan’s Daraban area, according to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Tuesday.
The night of December 11-12 witnessed heightened terror activities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s DI Khan district, resulting in the elimination of 27 terrorists during various operations.
Six terrorists targeted the security post in the early hours of December 12, with the attempt to breach the post being thwarted. Subsequently, the terrorists resorted to ramming an explosive-laden vehicle into the post, followed by a suicide bombing attack. The resulting blasts caused the building to collapse, leading to the tragic loss of 23 soldiers, while all six terrorists were neutralized.
ISPR reported ongoing sanitization operations in the area to eliminate any remaining terrorists. The statement emphasized the determination of Pakistan’s security forces to eradicate terrorism, underscoring the strength of resolve in the face of such sacrifices.
In a separate intelligence-based operation in the Darazinda area, 17 terrorists were killed. Another operation in Kulachi resulted in the effective engagement of terrorists, leading to the elimination of four. However, in the intense exchange of fire, two brave soldiers lost their lives.
The ISPR revealed that the killed terrorists were actively involved in various attacks against security forces and the killing of innocent civilians. Weapons, ammunition, and explosives were recovered during the operations.
Caretaker Interior Minister Sarfaraz Bugti condemned the terrorist attack on the police station in a post on X (formerly Twitter), expressing deep sorrow over the loss of lives.
