Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Information, Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, has strongly emphasized the importance of including the KP government in all dialogues and negotiations between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Speaking to media representatives, Barrister Saif argued that since KP directly borders Afghanistan and bears the brunt of the security, trade, and refugee-related challenges, excluding it from key discussions undermines both provincial interests and the broader effectiveness of national policy.
He pointed out that KP is not only geographically but also strategically positioned to play a vital role in cross-border issues, especially in matters relating to peace, security cooperation, and border management. Barrister Saif criticized the federal government for taking a centralized approach to foreign policy matters that have direct repercussions on the province.
He added that the KP government’s insights and involvement are crucial, particularly when addressing issues like terrorism, border fencing, and the influx of Afghan refugees. “Without KP’s input, any policy or agreement risks being disconnected from ground realities,” he warned.
Barrister Saif also expressed concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in the region and called for a more collaborative approach to counter-terrorism, where both the federal and provincial governments coordinate effectively with Afghan authorities.
His statement reflects growing calls from regional leadership demanding a more inclusive and decentralized policymaking process in matters of national importance.
