The biggest test of an experimental Covid-19 vaccine has got underway as first batch of 30,000 Americans braced to receive government-created shots. The results of the study could prove vital in the fight against covid-19, which has wreaked havoc in multiple countries, especially the US.
The experiment is the first stage testing of the vaccine, which has been developed by the National Institutes of Health and Moderna Inc. The stage comprises of volunteers being given either the actual drug or a placebo, without being told what they had been given. The results would be key in assessing the effectiveness of the drug.Other than the official experiment, private company Pfizer Inc. also announced the trial for its own anti-covid drug. The study also aimed recruiting 30,000 volunteers.
The race for a vaccine for the coronavirus has heated up, with multiple countries investing billions to find a cure. Among the leading countries, China, the United Kingdom and The United States are at the forefront. The World Health Organization has called for the vaccine to be free and available to all countries. While research is underway from some time, it shall be many months before a viable drug is produced.
