If people give the Peoples Party a mandate in the next general election, it will provide interest-free loans and ownership rights to families who have been living on government land for generations without ownership rights, adding that women will be made owners of such houses.
The outgoing foreign minister said on Wednesday at the inauguration ceremony for the construction of houses for 82,746 flood victims in the Ghotki district that PPP governments had always introduced such revolutionary programmes in the country, according to a press release issued by the Bilawal House Media Cell.
The houses are being built as part of the Sindh People’s Housing Programme for Flood Victims. Two million homes would be built for flood-affected households across the province under the initiative.
Mr Bhutto-Zardari stated that the Benazir Income Support Programme, interest-free loans for women in business, the People Poverty Reduction Programme, and the current construction of houses for flood-affected people with ownership rights are real instances of the PPP’s service to the masses.
“We are not only fighting flood devastation, but also poverty by building houses for victims,” he explained.
He recalled that following the floods last year, whenever he travelled to the afflicted districts, the locals just had one request: help them rebuild their destroyed homes.
“Within 10 months, we planned a massive programme to build houses for flood victims, arranged funding for the purpose at the global level, and ensured programme implementation,” the PPP chief said, adding that construction of two million houses had begun in the province under the project.
“Before I came to power, there was a prime minister who promised in his election campaign to create 10 million jobs and build five million houses for people, was given four years to complete that programme, and did not build a single house.”
“We only got power a few months ago, but the work has already begun.” Some houses have been constructed, others are being constructed, and the others will be constructed shortly,” he said.
According to the PPP chairman, a chosen prime minister duped the nation by making false promises.
Mr Bhutto-Zardari claimed that the PPP had been unfairly condemned in the past under the guise of not knowing how to run the province, and that the character assassination of the PPP was based on lies.
