Pakistani President Dr. Arif Alvi has sent letters to the media and urged them to help raise awareness about breast cancer.
The President in his letters urged the media to support the government and the civil society in raising awareness about the disease.
Arif Alvi pointed out that forty four percent cancer cases in Pakistani women are those of breast cancer. He said early diagnosis increases to ninety eight percent the possibility to get rid of the disease.
He however, regretted that being a taboo subject in our society, the women are unable to early diagnose this type of cancer, which increases the rate of mortality.
President Arif Alvi said the women should be encouraged for medical examination every three months.
The President said the First Lady Samina Alvi and her team has prepared different programs to create awareness amongst the people about this disease in the month of October. He said the programs will emphasize upon the importance of early diagnosis.
