Bushra Bibi, the spouse of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, has secured bail from the Accountability Court of Islamabad in connection with the £190 million reference case involving both her and her husband.
The decision to grant bail was made by Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Ali Warraich, who subsequently postponed further proceedings in the case until July 5. During the court session, legal representatives of Bushra Bibi diligently cross-examined three prosecution witnesses, thereby concluding the cross-examination phase for a total of 27 witnesses cited in the reference.
Responding to inquiries regarding Bushra Bibi’s legal status, Deputy Prosecutor General Sardar Muzaffar clarified that the Chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has not issued any arrest warrant against her, highlighting that her arrest is not deemed necessary at this juncture. Muzaffar underscored the pivotal role of an arrest warrant in determining the viability of a bail application, affirming that no such warrant had been requested even as far back as 10 months prior.
The developments in court underscore the ongoing legal proceedings surrounding allegations in the high-profile case, which continues to draw significant public and media attention across Pakistan.
