A widespread crackdown by traffic police across Punjab is compelling individuals to obtain valid driving licenses for cars, motorcycles, and other vehicles.
The initiative has led to a significant surge in citizens flocking to traffic police offices and Police Khidmat Markaz in various cities, including Lahore, to acquire learner driving licenses and avoid the registration of FIRs and traffic fines.
In response to the heightened demand, Lahore Traffic Police took to the social media platform X to clarify that individuals with learner driving licenses would not face FIRs. However, the announcement included a caveat: learners would still be liable to receive a Rs2,000 challan if found driving on major roads.
The police emphasized that holders of learner driving permits are restricted from driving on main arteries and must obtain a permanent license after successfully clearing the required test. Learner Driving Licenses can be obtained from any PKM, and the application process involves submitting an original and a copy of the CNIC, acquiring a Code Book of Traffic Rules & Regulations from the Traffic Police Office, and providing a medical certificate for candidates aged 50 years or more.
The age limits for obtaining a Learner Permit are set at 18 years for motorcycles and cars and 21 years for LTV (Rikshaw, Taxi, Tractor Commercial). It’s important to note that learner permits are issued on a daily basis with a validity period of six months.
