Colin Munro of New Zealand praised Azam Khan, a colleague with Islamabad United, for his aggressive batting style, stating he could not comprehend “why one of the best batters in the country” is not playing for Pakistan.
In the fourth game of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) last night, Munro, who played an outstanding 28-ball 58 during Islamabad United’s four-wicket victory over Karachi Kings, said he thought Azam was an “amazing” batter because of the way he bats and could not understand why he is not on Pakistan’s national team.
In a post-game press conference on Thursday, he added, “My goodness, if he (Azam) is one of the best batters in the nation, then why not get him in there (Pakistan team)?”
One of the most sought-after players in franchise competitions all over the world is wicketkeeper batter, Azam. The right-hander, who is well-known for his pinch-hitting, slammed 48 from 28 yesterday, including six fours and a six, tightening his team’s hold on the game as they chased 174 runs.
The 24-year-old, who is currently in his second PSL campaign for Islamabad United, first gained national attention in the PSL’s 2018 season when Quetta Gladiators, led by his father Moin Khan, a former Pakistan wicket-keeper batter, selected him. He also made his Pakistani debut in a match against England in Nottingham in 2021.
