A team of 1,490 workers is constantly cleaning and sterilizing the Prophet’s Mosque, its courtyards, and its roof using modern equipment and eco-friendly materials. This effort is part of a plan by Saudi Arabia’s General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Prophet’s Mosque during Ramadan.
They cover more than 1.378 million square meters, focusing on high-traffic areas before iftar and after Maghrib prayer. This includes washing, sterilizing, and disinfecting floors, carpets, and service facilities to maintain a healthy environment for worshippers.
Robots with artificial intelligence help clean the courtyards efficiently. They follow designated paths without obstructing people and return to their starting points after finishing their work, taking about two to four hours per round.
After iftar, cleaning efforts peak, with teams expected to complete over 16,900 maintenance and service tasks to keep the mosque safe and clean for worshippers.
