In the Toshakhana reference case, the Islamabad accountability court ordered the unfreezing of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s properties.
The court issued this order in response to Nawaz Sharif’s application to release his properties, which the provincial government of Punjab had seized after he was declared a proclaimed offender in the Toshakhana case.
In 2020, the same accountability court directed the forfeiture of Nawaz Sharif’s assets and properties in connection with the Toshakhana reference. The former prime minister had been declared a ‘proclaimed offender,’ and a permanent arrest warrant was issued due to his continuous non-appearance in court.
The court’s decision included the forfeiture of various assets such as land, luxury vehicles, and bank accounts, along with the seizure of agricultural land in Lahore and Sheikhupura and his house in Murree.
Recent developments also saw Nawaz Sharif being granted bail in the Toshakhana case by the accountability court. This came after his arrest warrant was suspended in October, and he subsequently surrendered before the court last month.
