Every year on September 6, Pakistan celebrates Defence Day to remember the moment in 1965 when its military forces prevented a surprise attack by India’s numerically superior forces.
On Friday, there was a change of guard at important sites such as Quaid’s mausoleum in Karachi and Allama Iqbal’s in Lahore.
In his speech, President Zardari stated that Pakistan seeks peace and stability in the region and is committed to peaceful coexistence with all neighbors.
In the meantime, in a post on X, the Prime Minister stated, “I join the entire nation in honoring the sacrifices of our soldiers and martyrs, as well as all those who fought valiantly for Pakistan’s defence.”
In her message, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif stated that September 6 was a beautiful chapter in Pakistan’s defence history when its military forces and people came together and reacted against the attack of a cowardly rival.
