Disney has been amongst many companies that have used their name to push Facebook to get its platform under control. Disney has been the most frequent adviser of Facebook in the U.S during the first half of 2020. The recent events however have been a turning point for Facebook where major companies like Starbucks and Microsoft have participated in the movement #StopHateForProfit.
#StopHateFOrProfit is a social movement to push Facebook in revising its policies regarding user behavior and posts of hate speech. It is a way to pressurize Facebook into submitting to ban racism, homophobia, bullying, or misinformation for the sake of profits.
Facebook might also look at a ban on political ads as the CEO Mark Zuckerberg openly criticized Trump’s administration’s way of handling the pandemic that have affected the people drastically. However, the irony is that he himself has failed to take measures in applying some stringent policies amongst users just because he fears losing profits.
Currently, Disney headquarters is administrating their advertising strategy on Facebook and reevaluating their choice. Although Disney did not pull away from Facebook while announcing it publicly, it has really hit the social networking spot for Facebook.
