After the relaxation on withholding taxes, a set of three new companies are said to manufacture units for mobile phones.
Nevertheless considering this matter first the investors have to acquire approvals from the two regulatory bodies the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority [PTA] and the Ministry of Industries and Production [MoIP].
The recently enacted ordinance by the government in abolishing WHT on the local manufacturing mobile devices has been commended by the investors, As it had been done in hopes to encourage production, to assemble parts around the country.
Amir Allahwala the chief executive for the two mobile devices Infinix and Techno said, formerly imported devices used to be cheaper than the manufactured ones. Now after the relaxation in taxes a per set is around Rs 1,900 between a local assembled mobile phone compared to an imported one with a value of $100.
In the meantime, a senior official from the Engineering Development Board [EDB] a joint department of [MoIP] confirmed the units who have applied for the establishment of those units are comprised of Airlink in Lahore, Vivo in Faisalabad, and Advance Telecom in Karachi.
