Pakistan’s national space agency, the Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), has predicted that Eid-ul-Fitr 2025 will likely be observed on Monday, March 31, 2025, marking the end of Ramadan.
Suparco announced on Wednesday that the Shawwal moon is expected to be born on March 29, with its sighting likely on March 30. Based on this, Eid-ul-Fitr is anticipated to fall on Monday, March 31.
Suparco’s forecast relies on scientific analysis, astronomical calculations, and modern observational data regarding the Shawwal moon’s visibility.
According to the statement, “Precise astronomical models indicate that the new Moon (conjunction) for Shawwal will occur on March 29, 2025, at 3:58 PM.”
The agency further explained that moon visibility depends on several factors, including the moon’s age, its distance from the sun, altitude at sunset, and atmospheric conditions.
Additionally, Suparco noted that moon sighting in Saudi Arabia on March 29 is highly unlikely, meaning Eid-ul-Fitr is also expected to fall on March 31 there, coinciding with Pakistan’s expected date.
Suparco’s prediction aligns with the Pakistan Meteorological Department, which has also forecast Eid on March 31.
Meanwhile, the federal government has officially announced a three-day public holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr. According to a notification from the Cabinet Division, the holidays will be observed from Monday, March 31, to Wednesday, April 2.
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet on Sunday evening at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony to confirm the Shawwal moon sighting.
