Ethiopian Airlines will commence direct operations between Karachi and Addis Ababa in May.
From Karachi, Ethiopian Airlines will start operating flights on May 1. According to sources, the airliner will fly 4 flights each week.
According to Ethiopian Airlines CEO Mesfin Tasew, “Being the only route connecting Pakistan with Africa, the scheduled service to Karachi will have important significance in improving the diplomatic and commercial links between the two regions. Additionally, it will provide convenient air connectivity to the increasing number of Pakistani tourists and investors in Africa.
The Addis Ababa-Karachi route was formerly serviced by the national airline of Ethiopia between 1966 and 1971, and once more between 1993 and 2004.
Prior to then, Jemal Beker Abdula, the Ethiopian ambassador, had informed Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, Pakistan’s foreign minister, of the preparations made by both countries for the start of direct flights between Ethiopia and Pakistan.

In the conference, Pakistan and Ethiopia also decided to increase their cooperation to address the problems caused by climate change.
