After a long illness, Dr. Seemin Jamali, former executive director of the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), died on Saturday evening.
Dr. Jamali was being treated at a private hospital in Karachi after her condition deteriorated.
Her husband, Dr. AR Jamali, stated in a statement that she was admitted to a private hospital in Karachi around eight days ago and died at 7:30 p.m. today. He noted that she was 61 years old.
Memon stated that she left behind her husband, Dr. AR Jamali, and two sons, Omar Jamali, and Baber Jamali.
Seemin Jamali’s funeral prayers will be placed tomorrow (Sunday) at the JPMC mosque in Asr, according to a condolence reference.
It is worth noting that Seemin Jamali will be diagnosed with colon cancer in November 2020.
She began working at JPMC in 1988. She earned her master’s degree in Primary Healthcare Management (MPHM) in Thailand in 1993.
In November 2016, she began her tenure as JPMC’s executive director. She had been the primary point of contact anytime there was a medical emergency in Karachi since then. She will leave the military in August 2021.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) named Dr. Jamali a ‘global hero’ for her efforts during the coronavirus outbreak in 2021. She won several accolades, including the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz in 2019.
