Former Prime Minister Imran Khan, founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was acquitted on Thursday in two cases related to the May 9 violence.
During the hearing of the bail pleas at the District and Sessions Court, Judicial Magistrate Omar Shahab delivered the verdict on the cases registered at Shahzad Town Police Station.
The court acquitted Imran Khan in both cases citing insufficient evidence. Imran Khan’s lawyers, Mirza Asim Beg and Naeem Panjotha, had presented their arguments on the bail pleas.
According to the lawyer, the FIR was filed by an unauthorized person, and although Imran Khan was charged under Section 109, no evidence was presented.
Earlier, Imran Khan had filed a plea seeking acquittal in the May 9 violence cases. His counsel, Naeem Panjutha, appeared before the court and submitted the plea for Imran Khan’s acquittal.
Judicial Magistrate Sohaib Bilal inquired about the number of cases against Imran Khan and whether the challan against him was collected in the cases.
