A newly constituted court under the Official Secrets Act has granted PTI Chairman Imran Khan, who is on judicial detention in the cypher case for 14 days, permission to call his sons.
The former prime minister is being jailed in Attock Jail, and when his judicial remand was accepted, he filed a plea to have telephone conversations with Qasim and Suleman.
Judge Abul Hasnat Mohammad Zulqarnain of the Special Court has allowed the petition and directed the director of the jail to arrange for telephonic contact between Imran Khan and his sons.
A day earlier, the court had extended former Prime Minister and PTI chairman Narendra Modi’s judicial remand in the cypher case till September 13.
The hearing was held at the Attock Jail, and the former premier was brought before Judge Abul Hasnat of the Special Court.
The PTI chief’s legal team, which included Barrister Salman Safdar, Intizar Panjotha, Naeem Panjotha, and Ali Ijaz, presented arguments at the hearing, which was also attended by Federal Investigators.
During Wednesday’s session, the former premier’s legal team filed a petition seeking his post-arrest bail application and asked the special court to allow his bail in the case.
Panjotha and other members insisted that the registration of the case against the former prime minister under the Official Secrets Act was unlawful, describing it as a politically motivated action.
The trial of a Pakistani leader famed for his populist tactics will continue in jail, and the accused may seek release.
The former cricketer was arrested again shortly after the Islamabad High Court suspended his sentence in the Toshakhana criminal case. Under the Official Secrets Act, he was placed on judicial remand until August 30.
