The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday granted interim bail to former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan in the £190 million NCA corruption case (Al-Qadir Trust).
Under tight security, Imran Khan appeared before a two-judge bench of Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb and Justice Saman Rafat.
The former prime minister’s lawyer asked the court to prolong Imran Khan’s temporary bail until June 8 because his client has to appear in court in other instances as well.
Despite rejecting the lawyer’s appeal, the IHC extended the former prime minister’s temporary bail in the NCA £190m scandal until Monday (June 5) and ordered him to appear before the competent court.
EX PM Imran Khan’s name put on ECL
In the £190m NCA dispute, the federal government previously placed former Prime Minister and PTI head Imran Khan’s name on the Exit Control List (ECL).
According to individuals familiar with the situation, the former Prime Minister’s name was added to the ECL at the request of the National Accountability Bureau Rawalpindi and following clearance from the federal cabinet.
The NAB has also suggested that Bushra Bibi, the former prime minister’s wife, be placed on the ECL in the same case, for which a letter would be written to the interior ministry.
NCA £190m scandal
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) started an investigation into Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi, and others for the alleged acquisition of hundreds of canals of land in the name of Al Qadir University Trust, resulting in a 190 million pound loss to the national exchequer.
According to the charges, the former prime minister and others accused allegedly modified Rs50 billion — 190 million pounds at the time — submitted to the government by Britain’s National Crime Agency (NCA).
On December 26, 2019, the PTI chairman established the Trust for the Al-Qadir University Project.
