Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz recently visited a tandoor in Lahore to assess the current prices of roti and naan, traditional flatbreads.
Upon arrival, both Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz examined a notification detailing the revised prices. Maryam Nawaz took an active role, personally checking the weight and cost of the roti before ensuring that the notification was prominently displayed on the wall.
During the inspection, Maryam Nawaz placed a piece of roti priced at 16 rupees, reflecting the updated rate.
In discussion, Nawaz Sharif stressed that the price of roti must not exceed 20 rupees, reaffirming the commitment to ensuring affordability for consumers. Meanwhile, the Punjab Chief Minister confirmed that the price of roti had indeed been revised to 16 rupees, with naan priced at 20 rupees, in accordance with the latest directives.
Emphasizing the authority of the new notifications, both leaders highlighted that any attempt to charge more than the specified rates, especially exceeding 16 rupees for roti, should be reported promptly for necessary action.
This visit follows recent adjustments in flour prices across Punjab, resulting in a decrease in roti costs, with the new rate set at 16 rupees, aiming to ease financial burdens on the populace.
