Top-order batsman Fakhar Zaman of Pakistan thinks Lahore Qalandars have put up a strong team for the upcoming Pakistan Super League season (PSL).
Zaman emphasized the defending champions’ depth on the bench.
“They have assembled a very good team this year. In the past four or five seasons, we didn’t have adequate bench strength but that is not the case this year. This time we have the players on our bench, who are as good as those playing on the field. This is a really good sign for us,” said Zaman.
The left-hander led all scorers with 588 runs at an average of 45.23 and a strike rate of 152.72 during the previous year. His seven fifty-seven and one hundred played a big part in Qalandars winning the competition.
Zaman is eager to deliver a strong performance with the bat once more in front of the 2023 edition.
“Every year, Pakistani cricket fans eagerly anticipate the PSL. We will strive to defend our trophy this season, and I’m thrilled for PSL as well.
“As a batter my aim once again would be to become the best batter in the event while also helping Lahore Qalandars win with my performance,” he added.
In February of last year, Lahore Qalandars won the inaugural Pakistan Super League championship in Lahore with a 42-run victory over Multan Sultans in the final. It should be highlighted that former Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez played a key role in the victory.
The 41-year-old helped Qalandars reach 180-5 after they won the toss and chose to bat in front of a crowded 30,000-person Gaddafi stadium with a valiant 46-ball 69.
Hafeez then contributed by getting rid of Aamer Azmat (six) and in-form opener Mohammad Rizwan (14) to dismiss the reigning champions for 138 in 19.3 overs.
It is planned that the eighth PSL will take place from February 13 to March 19, 2023.
