Pakistani opener Fakhar Zaman has been ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy due to a back injury, a major setback for the national team. Expressing his disappointment, Zaman took to social media on Thursday, stating, “It is an honor to represent Pakistan. I have done so many times and will continue to do so, InshaAllah.”
Zaman sustained the injury while fielding against New Zealand and was officially replaced in the squad by Imam-ul-Haq after approval from the ICC’s Event Technical Committee. The committee, including Wasim Khan, Usman Wahla, Sarah Edgar, and Shaun Pollock, approved Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) request for a replacement.
Despite being ruled out, Zaman reassured fans of his unwavering support for the team, stating, “I will support my team from home.” Pakistan will now rely on Imam-ul-Haq to strengthen their top order as they aim to recover from their early setback in the tournament.
Pakistan’s Path to the Semi-Finals
With only three group-stage matches, Pakistan faces a do-or-die situation. Their crushing defeat against New Zealand has placed them in a precarious position, and a loss against India could see them eliminated.
To stay in contention for the semi-finals, Pakistan must: Win both remaining matches against India and Bangladesh
Improve their net run rate to stay ahead in case of a tie with other teams
The upcoming Pakistan vs. India clash in Dubai is now a virtual knockout match, leaving no room for mistakes. Pakistan must deliver a strong performance to keep their Champions Trophy hopes alive.
