The federal government on Tuesday banned Sheesha smoking across Pakistan.
According to the details Sheesha sales will be banned in hotels, restaurants, and public areas. Additionally prohibited countrywide is the establishment of new sheesha cafés and the import and manufacture of ingredients.
According to sources within the health ministry, the ban will be strictly enforced through the appropriate amendments.
After the amendment the official order on the sheesha ban will be issued, sources added.
The government officially banned the import of tobacco used in sheesha in 2016.
Earlier, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) ordered the local government to shut down all sheesha cafés in the federal capital immediately and to provide a report on the matter.
The court ordered the Islamabad administration to take urgent action against the capital’s sheesha cafés and provide an IHC status report.
The government of Islamabad, the police, and the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) have all prepared their forces to repress any locations acting as sheesha cafes.
