KARACHI: The DG Khan Cement Company will be exporting its first shipment of cement to the United States on Tuesday, June 21st. This is a momentous occasion, as the company is the first Pakistani cement manufacturer to enter the US market.
The demand for construction materials in the US has increased dramatically in recent months, due to President Biden’s $6 trillion infrastructure package. DG Khan Cement Company is proud to be able to provide American buyers with a new, reliable source of supply.
DG Khan Cement has successfully secured an export order from a group in the US to supply 50,000 metric tons of cement every month for the next 12 months, totalling 600,000 metric tons. Fazal said that this figure could double if all goes well.
This order comes as part of a larger package of infrastructure projects in the US, which includes freeways, bridges, and roads, that are being rebuilt or given facelifts. Many of these structures were constructed almost a century ago.
For the first time in the country’s history, cement is being exported to the sophisticated US market. A ship, Tomini Felicity, is presently being loaded at Karachi Port and will sail on Tuesday carrying the first consignment of 50,000 metric tons to the Port of Houston, Texas.
He said export to the US was not an easy task and it would take some eight months to meet their requirements for cement export to the US.
In August 2021, DG Khan Cement visited the US to get this order and after the customers representatives visited the DG Khan plant, they agreed on supply of special cement called “low alkali cement.”
Fazal said cement is being exported in a large bag of 1.5 metric tons and the US authorities were also doubted on the ability of Karachi Port for load of such kind of quantities.
