In collaboration with Transgender Rights Consultants Pakistan, the transgender community celebrated the first-ever National Transgender Day at the Federal Ombudsman Secretariat of Protection Against Harassment (FOSPAH).
Ambassador Lis Rosen Holm of Denmark, as well as many signatories from the US and Australian embassies, the British High Commission, and officials from ministries, national commissions, and transgender representatives from across the country, attended the event.
“We are here to open the first roundtable in Pakistan,” Federal Ombudsman Kashmala Khan said in her opening remarks. We need to include them in the mainstream because Pakistan is one of the top 12 countries that recognize transgender identity.”
She stated that they are all from us and that we can feel their marginalization. There was no specific law for transgender people, but they are now included in the category of people. She stated that the FOSPAH is willing to take on transgender cases.
Nayyab Ali, Executive Director of Transgender Rights Consultants Pakistan, stated that Pakistan is a global torchbearer for trans rights.
