According to famous religious scholar and former Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee chairman Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman, the minimum Sadqa-e-Fitr gift for the current year is set at Rs320. Muslims are obligated to make this mandatory charity tribute during the holy month of Ramadan.
According to Islamic Shariah, the rate is based on the cost of basic foods such flour, dates, raisins, cheese, and barley.
Helping the underprivileged and needy members of society, especially on the festival day of Eidul Fitr, is the main goal of Sadqa-e-Fitr. Muslims can give back to their community and receive blessings from Allah Almighty by performing this deed in time for the impending Eid-ul-Fitr holiday. It also assists the needy and underprivileged.
According to Mufti Muneeb, the market price of 2.25 kilograms of flour, the amount for Fitrana is calculated as Rs320 per head. The faithful who wants to pay Fitrana equal to the price of barley, and dates should pay minimum Rs480 and Rs2,800 per head respectively.
Similarly, a faithful who wants to pay Fitrana at the rate of raisin should pay:
- Rs6,400 per head for first-class dates
- Rs4,800 per person for second-class raisin
Before the Eid prayers, a Muslim who has more food than he needs must pay Sadqa-e-Fitr.
However, those who are wealthier, they should try to pay more to extend assistance to the poor in this time of skyrocketing inflation.
If anyone had been unable to keep fast for the whole month of Ramazan, he or she should pay the whole month Friday as compensation worth :
- Rs9,600 in proportionate to flour price
- Rs14,400 for barley, Rs 84,000 for date
- Rs192,000 for raisin first class
- Rs144,000 for second-class raisin.
Similarly, Kufara (compensation) for leaving 30 fasts in wheat would be:
- Rs19,200 for wheat
- Rs28,800 for barley
- Rs168,000 dates
- Rs384,000 raisin first class
- Rs 2,88,000 for second class raisin.
Kufara in wheat would be Rs3,200, barley Rs4,800, dates Rs28,000, raisin Rs64,000 first class and Rs48,000 for second class raisin.
If a person is the primary provider for his family, he should additionally pay Sadqa-e-Fitr for his wife, children, dependant relatives, and slaves.
In order for the impoverished to participate in the festival of Eid al-Fitr, Mufti Muneeb also recommended the people donate money to them before Eid. Close relatives, neighbors, and the poor are those who need Sadqa-e-Fitr the most.
According to Mufti Munibur Rehman, the true spirit of Fitr and Fidya is a two-time dinner for a person in need, hence it is preferable to pay for a hotel meal instead.
