Flour crisis has intensified in Punjab and the provincial authorities imposed a ban on the inter-district movement of wheat stocks and products.
36 deputy commissioners were given orders by the Punjab food department to start an assault on hoarders and the illegal transfer of wheat stocks.
Additionally, the food department authorized the establishment of picket lines around the city’s entrance and exit points to prevent the transfer of stockpiles of wheat, flour, fine flour (maida), and wheat semolina (soji) from the flour mills to other districts.
The provincial food department’s choice was imposed with outrage by the flour mills association. Iftikhar Mattu, president of the District Flour Mills Association, claimed that instead of increasing the speed, the government is increasing the flour issue.
He demanded the provincial government immediately lift the ban on inter-district movement in 36 districts of Punjab.
