According to Pakistan Oilfields Limited (POL), a development well in the Tal block of the Kohat Plateau, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has found hydrocarbon deposits. POL made this announcement in a filing to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Tuesday.
According to information from MOL Pakistan, an oil and gas company that is the operator of the Tal block, the well has been drilled and is currently in the testing phase, said the notice.
MOL, Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL), Oil and Gas Development Company (OGDCL), Government Holdings Private Limited (GHPL), and Pakistan Oilfields Limited (POL) together explored and developed the Tal block (POL).
The well tested 12.7 MMscf of gas per day, 11.3 barrels per day of condensate, and 9.2 barrels per day of water at 32/64″ fixed choke size at the flowing wellhead pressure of 1,914 psi as a result of the Drill Stem Test (DST) carried out at the well to test the potential of the Lumshiwal formation, according to the notice.
Through the drill stem, DST is a process for isolating and evaluating the nearby geological formations.
The test, according to POL, “is a measurement of pressure behavior at the drill stem and is a technique to gather essential fluid sample information and to establish the probability of commercial production,” noting that actual production can differ significantly from test results.
POL also disclosed that production from the well is anticipated to begin in December 2022.
OGDCL first reported the discovery of oil and gas reserves from its exploration wells in Sindh and Punjab back in June.
The discoveries were made in Rajanpur, a tribal area in Punjab,, as well as district Tando Allah Yar, Sindh, announced the company then.
