KARACHI: According to News, the duration of gas load-shedding to Karachi industry was increased for up to two days on Friday, further worsening the gas crisis in Pakistan’s industrial center. As the crisis in the city grew worse, Karachi’s industrial sites will now experience gas load shedding for two days instead of only one. It was discovered that a two-day gas closure statement had been made for all industrial facilities and captive power plants in Karachi. From December 17 to December 19, seven industrial zones and captive power plants were told not to use Sui Southern Gas Company’s (SSGC) gas supply (Saturday and Sunday).
According to sources, the appropriate authorities will file legal charges against those who violate the law, and SSGC monitoring teams will also carry out unannounced raids on all industrial locations. Imtiaz Shaikh, the energy minister for Sindh, criticized the gas load shedding on December 13 and claimed that although the province is producing more natural gas than it needs, it is still being denied its legal entitlement. Imtiaz Shaikh, the energy minister, asked in an exclusive interview that Sindh be given preference over other regions of the nation in the provision of natural gas.
The energy minister for Sindh stated, “We would go to court if necessary.” He added, “We are also thinking about bringing up the matter in the Council of Common Interest (CCI)”. He claimed that the chief minister had stated Sindh’s case about the gas problem during discussions between the state and federal governments. He expressed the desire that the prime minister pay attention to the situation. The provincial minister stated that when more gas is given to the province, Karachi’s industry will resume operation. The most natural gas-producing province in Pakistan, Sindh, is currently experiencing a severe natural gas shortage for home, industrial, and commercial consumers.
