The Utility Store Corporation (USC) has announced a reduction in the prices of ghee and cooking oil from well-known brands across the country.
The spokesperson stated that the price of ghee from popular brands has been reduced by Rs 17 per kg, while the prices of cooking oil have been decreased from Rs 37 per liter to Rs 48 per liter.
Following the adjustment, ghee will be available at Rs 482 per kg instead of Rs 499, and cooking oil will be priced at Rs 422 per liter instead of Rs 470. Other branded cooking oil will be available at Rs 518 per liter instead of Rs 555.
These new prices are effective immediately, and the Utility Stores Corporation is taking steps to reduce the prices of other items for the convenience of general consumers.
Earlier reports had indicated that the prices of essential items at Utility Stores were higher than the rates in the open market. For instance, the price of sugar at Utility Stores was Rs 155, while the open market price was Rs 135.28. Similarly, a 20 kg flour bag was priced at Rs 2840 at Utility Stores compared to Rs 2820.34 in the open market.
