Sources confirmed that the Punjab government has recently increased the minimum monthly wage of the workers by a total of Rs.2,000. The wage has been increased from the amount of Rs.17,500 to Rs.19,500; meanwhile, the minimum daily wage has also been fixed at Rs.750 per day.
The Punjab Minimum Wages Board issued the notification for this on Tuesday. However, this will be implemented with an effect of July 1st, 2021.
According to the reports, the board has also asked the stakeholders to make their suggestions or any objection known within a month regarding this increase in wages of the labourers.
Ansar Majeed, the Labour Minister said that the monthly contribution from the workers of Rs.40 has been abolished. He further said, “The workers have also been given a relief of over R.s4.5 billion per annum; whereas, the industrialists have also been given a relief of Rs.5.5 billion as in the form of fines of social security.
