The National Highway Authority (NHA) plans to introduce a helicopter rescue service for accident victims on motorways, enhancing the existing 1122 emergency helpline.
Federal Minister for Communication, Abdul Aleem Khan, has directed the NHA to develop both short-term and long-term strategies to improve road safety. Emphasizing the need to reduce motorway accidents, he called for comprehensive rescue arrangements and a five-year action plan for road construction projects, ensuring the efficient use of government resources.
Additionally, the NHA has been assigned to draft the National Transport Policy. Minister Khan also urged the implementation of video surveillance for trucks on highways and stricter enforcement of axle load regulations on GT roads in various cities. He emphasized that adherence to the freight and logistics policy is critical, and any negligence will require immediate corrective measures.
